In terms of appearance, the B3 (and D3 S) gets the viewers and grille of the renewed 3-series. The front bumper of the B3 and D3 S also gets a new design, but with a clear Alpina sauce. The central air inlet continues optically upwards and is divided on both sides by two additional vertical bars that bend outwards at the bottom. At the rear, the changes are a lot smaller. The four exhausts and the diffuser have remained unchanged. However, the reflectors on the corners of the car were rearranged. With the facelift of the B3, Alpina offers a choice of three new colors: Melbourne Red, Brooklyn Gray and Skyscraper Grey. Inside the Alpina B3 is the dashboard of the new 3 Series with the large curved screen that sits on top of the dashboard. Version 8 of the iDrive system is running on that screen and you will find the blue digital counters that are characteristic of Alpina in the renewed instruments. Naturally, Alpina uses special types of leather and wood to furnish the interior. There is also a plaque under the iDrive controller with the construction number of the car. Alpina B3 The 3.0 biturbo six-in-line of the B3 has become 33 hp stronger, so that the power is now just below the 500 hp limit with 495 hp. The torque increases by 30 Nm to a paving stone-crushing 730 Nm. Relatively speaking, of course, the power increase is not very large, so it does not have much effect on performance. The B3 sedan pops to 100 km/h in 3.6 seconds, the Touring takes a tenth longer. In 12.2 and 12.7 seconds respectively, the speedometer’s digital needle reads 200 km/h and the B3 sedan is only out of breath at 305 km/h. The Touring gives up a little earlier, at 302 km/h. More power for the facelifted B3 With the increase in power, the B3 is on the same level as the recently presented B4 Gran Coupé and is only 15 hp short of the M3 Competition. The B3 has 80 Nm more torque than the M3. Incidentally, the diesel version Alpina D3 S also benefits from the facelift. The self-igniter, also with 3.0 six-in-line, does not get any extra power and has to make do with 355 hp and 730 Nm. This means that the petrol version delivers the same amount of torque as the diesel. The performance of the D3 S does not lie: it sprints to 100 km/h in 4.6 seconds and only stops accelerating at 273 km/h. The Dutch prices of the renewed Alpina B3 are unknown, but in Germany the sedan costs at least €88,600 and the Touring €89,900. With the D3 S, they cost €77,050 and €78,450 respectively. With the Dutch tax climate, add only a few tens of thousands of euros…
