Ducati’s Streetfighter V2, Honda’s CB1000R and Suzuki’s GSX-S1000 draw black stripes on the tarmac as easily as they show good manners. We test them together with a special English competitor of slightly older age.
All four deliver around 150 hp, but there are clear differences in the way in which and in the appearance. Take the Ducati Streetfighter. Small, angular fairing, emphatically sloping forward lines and a V-twin with an extremely short-stroke character and no visible frame – with these ingredients the Italian screams for attention. Brave, different and yet also Italian slick. The Honda is more solid on its multi-spoke wheels. The short fat exhaust rises sharply on the right side, the butt is short and small, the headlight fits closely to the upside-down front fork and the four-cylinder in-line engine is clearly visible. No concealing fairings here. And the Suzuki? It has its vertically stacked double headlight placed low and flat against the front fork and further looks bullish-wide with its typical Japanese design, with sharp lines reminiscent of Japanese folding art. The Speed Triple is completely different. At the front the characteristic double headlight, behind the double exhaust tightly along the butt. In its entirety the image of a powerhouse on wheels. The Triumph doesn’t have much plastic around it either, but it still has a unique, almost legendary styling. The Speed Triple is unmistakably a Triumph and pretty much the business card of the British brand.
All nice and nice, but which of the four is the best? There is, of course, only one way to find out. Read it all in MotoPlus 11/2022!
