The new PlayStation Plus is very close to debut and there are still several questions about Sony’s new service for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5. Luckily, Sony noticed this and decided to answer some of them. Thanks to this, we already know if it will be necessary to have a permanent Internet connection to enjoy the new PlayStation Plus games.
In a post on the PlayStation Blog, Sony answered several questions about the new PlayStation Plus. One of them is that if it will be possible to start the games of the service without having an active connection to the Internet. Of course, keep in mind that there is a verification process that you will have to complete from time to time in order to continue using the game.

According to Sony, the verification process for the new PlayStation Plus games will be every 7 days. With this the service will confirm that your PlayStation Plus membership is still active so that you can continue using your game. This means that you will be able to continue playing if your Internet fails one day, but you will have problems if the failures exceed a week.
“Yes. However, when you play a game downloaded from the Games Catalog on the PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium/Deluxe plans, you will need to connect to PSN every 7 days to validate your PlayStation Plus subscription and maintain your access to the game.
Please note that this step is only required for titles in the Games Catalog on the PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium/Deluxe plans. It does not apply to monthly downloadable games available through PlayStation Plus Essential,” Sony explained.
