Video games and rock have always had a strong link, either because of the famous titles based on this musical genre, as well as songs that appear in some video game soundtracks or rockers who have shown their fanaticism for them for years.
You can read: Dr. Dre initially refused his GTA collaboration as he thought it was “for kids”.
Artists like the lead singer of System of a Down, Serj Tankian, who recently revealed that his fanaticism for video games was so high that he took it to the extreme and couldn’t stop playing them when a game started.
For those who do not know them, System of a Down is an American rock group, where its participants are of Armenian descent, which was formed in California, in 1994, a decade -along with the early 2000s- where they became mostly famous, delivering classics like the songs Chop Sue, Toxicity and Lonely Day.
Tankian gave the statement during an interview with the Loudwire medium, where he was asked if he played video games, answering not only yes, but also adding that his fanaticism for them was such that he had to leave them because they put his musical career at risk.
“In my 20s I was a gamer. I used to have a PlayStation and all that stuff playing too many NBA Jam games and my fingers got really bad. This was before I started touring with System of a Down. At one point I realized I realized this was getting really addictive and I shouldn’t be doing it. It was hurting my hands and I need it for my job. So I stopped playing.”
These sayings come within the framework of the announcement of its collaboration with the video game Metal: Hellsinger, a rhythmic FPS that, as its developers indicate, the ability to shoot without missing a beat will enhance your gaming experience. According to the rocker, “Then, years later, there was a company that wanted me to do some music for a video game and I thought that was great, but then I realized that I don’t have a console. I was embarrassed. So, I They sent a console and some games.”
And as the lead singer of System of a Down says, it happened again and he was up all night, in bed, “going crazy and getting addicted again”, so he decided to get rid of video games again.
Although in any case with this collaboration, he would not be so far from them, indicating to close that “I’m not playing video games now, but I love making music for them”.
