Video games are one of the funniest pastimes out there and when we get hooked on a game there is no going back, to the point that we can lose track of everything that happens around us. Although it is something that has happened to most of us, falling into extremes is something negative and if there is someone who has gone through it, it is the vocalist of System of a Down, Serj Tankian, who revealed that he stays away from gaming because if a game falls into his hands, he just can’t stop.
Serj Tankian quit video games because he got addicted to them
A few days ago it was announced that Serj Tankian, lead singer of System of a Down, has joined the development of Metal: Hellsinger, a rhythm FPS whose battles shine thanks to great heavy rock and heavy metal themes. This news gave Serj Tankian the opportunity to tell if he has any relationship with video games and the response was surprising. During an interview with Loudwire, the System of a Down frontman revealed that he did play video games but quit because they put his music career at risk: “In my 20s I was a gamer. I used to have a PlayStation and all that stuff playing too many games. from NBA Jam and my fingers got really bad. This was before I started touring with System of a Down. At one point I realized this was getting really addictive and I shouldn’t be doing it. It was hurting my hands and I need it for my work. So I stopped playing.
Metal work: Hellsinger brought him back to gaming, but the same thing happened
Although Serj Tankian left video games and lived very successful years with System of a Down, recently the Metal: Hellsinger development team approached him to invite him to participate in the game but since he was very rusty after many years they thought it would be good idea to bring him back into gaming, but the result was the same: “then years later there was a company that wanted me to do some music for a video game and I thought that was cool, but then I realized that I don’t have a console. I was embarrassed. So, they sent me a console and some games. What do you think happened? I was up all night, in bed, freaking out and addicted again. So, I got rid of the video games of new! I’m not playing video games right now, but I love making music for them.”
Metal: Hellsinger will debut this year and as well as featuring Serj Tankian, it will feature songs with Trivium’s Matt Heaffy, Lamb of God’s Randy Blythe, Arch Enemy’s Alissa White-Gluz and Dark Tranquility’s Mikael Stanne.
