SAN BENEDETTO DEL TRONTO, 24 MAY – She escapes from the war, is welcomed in San Benedetto del Tronto (Ascoli Piceno) and triumphs at the European Pole Sport Championships after having also won the World Cup. It is the story of Yeva Korystova, a twelve-year-old Ukrainian, a pupil of the “Curzi” secondary school in the Marche city, where she arrived after leaving her country due to the Russian invasion. The girl won the European Championships in Valladolid, Spain, obtaining the first place in the Junior category with a score of 132,499, with a large advantage over the second classified. Her success repeats that obtained at the world championships in Bologna. “We are very proud to host a European and world champion in our school – says the head teacher Elisa Vita – and I am happy that Yeva has found at ‘Curzi’ a peaceful learning environment and is living the school experience in a gratifying way”. The 12-year-old, together with her mother, was welcomed by a family of compatriots in San Benedetto and found the availability of the institute to let her continue her schooling, trying to help her overcome the difficulties of the language and, above all, the trauma of war. A situation that did not prevent Yeva from continuing to practice the Pole sport, a discipline that combines gymnastics and dance through the execution of acrobatic figures, which require considerable skills of strength, fluency, coordination, agility and endurance. It is an activity that in a few years has established itself, involving an ever-increasing number of practitioners, so much so that they aspire to enter the Olympics. And the five circles today represent Yeva’s dream, that she started practicing this sport at the age of 7, also training 14 hours a week. (HANDLE).
