When Erik ten Hag was appointed as the new coach of Manchester United in the 2022/23 season, he was rumored to be trying to carry out a major squad overhaul, thus making him active in the 2022 summer transfer window.
In addition to bringing in new players, Ten Hag is also rumored to be selling several players who will not be included in the plan. Currently, the figures of Harry Maguire and Cristiano Ronaldo, were rumored to be names on the Ten Hag selling list.
If Maguire often experiences inconsistencies, Ronaldo is considered not to be included in the Dutch passport coach’s plans, because he is 37 years old which makes Ten Hag want to use a young striker.
Even though there were rumors like that, Ten Hag swiftly denied it and emphasized that Maguire and Ronaldo would continue to graze with their squad because they still needed his services.
“Of course (Ronaldo will stay here). He can be a goal machine for MU,” said Ten Hag quoted from the Evening Standard Football.
“Next season will be different. For Maguire, he has done a great job and is a great player, and has achieved a lot at Manchester United. So I can’t wait to work with him,” he concluded.
Even though he had stated that, Ten Hag didn’t seem to want to confirm whether he still trusted Maguire as the team captain or not.
