The 2022 marks the start of the first edition of VGML – Verona Green Movie Landa project that aims to unite cinema, culture And tourism.
The project was started from the idea of My Planet 2050the Veronese association born with the aim and the will to sensitize society to the issues present in the vision of European Commissionwhich wants to reach aclimate neutral economy and to have a climate impact equal to zero for the 2050and that it abides by the awareness protocol of Stop Climate Changesponsored by Ministry for Ecological Transition.
Support a VGML was given by the Chamber of Commerce of Verona and by various green supporters, together with the patronage and contribution of the six municipalities that are part of the project: Verona, Bardolino, Bosco Chiesanuova, Legnago, Negrar di Valpolicella And Soave.
Despite the division between the six municipalities, the most significant soul remains that of Verona Green Movie Festival, which deals with the coordination and promotion of the various film festivals, organized in compliance with the principles of sustainability and social responsibility. The website from VGML will therefore be the collector of the whole project, while the individual events will also be told about social.
Why the cinema?
The cinema was chosen as the vehicle for the cultural, tourist and economic promotion of the Verona area due to its “ability to involve, excitestimulate conscious and responsible choices in the public for our planet, showing and promoting more equitable and sustainable development models “, as argued Renato Cremonesipresident of MyPlanet50.
The artistic director by VGML, Alessandro Anderloni, stated that the selection of feature films and documentaries, together with the various guests and workshops, aims to show how mountains, plains, valleys, lakes and cities can work together. Anderloni’s words were followed by Paolo Tosi, Vice-president of the Verona Chamber of Commerceunderlining the work of “effective enhancement and sustainable promotion of the tangible and intangible cultural offer of Verona, also in terms of growth of the tourism economy”.
The areas of the project
The project is divided into various areas. On the one hand, there is the Mobile Contestwhich puts films and documentaries shot with the smartphonealways respecting sustainability and social responsibility.
On the other hand, there is Academythat is, the creation of the International School of Sustainable Cinema and the realization of the first Green Movie Art International Masterin collaboration with the US University of Utah.
Finally, here it is Setwhich wants to give a new framing to the world of tourism through the possibility of reliving the places in the Verona area in which the most famous films were shot, thanks also to the collaboration of Meeterstour operator active in the Verona area.
In addition, there will also be a series of events, round tables, in-depth meetings, visits and conferences related to the theme of sustainability, film culture and the territory.
Discover the Festivals

Bardolino Film Festival (15 – 19 June), directed by Franco Dassistireturns with its second edition and the theme is that of the relationship with Land. The two competitive sections concern one for feature films and one for short films, and there will be screenings of films that have best interpreted the theme of this edition.
Theodoric Cinema Festival (13 – 15 August), whose location will be Castel San Pietro, once the home of Theodoric, returning from the perspective of discovering the Veronese territory beyond the classic tourist itineraries. Two free screenings are scheduled, interspersed with a musical concert.
Lessinia Film Festival (19 – 28 August), which reaches its 28th edition this year and will screen works from all over the world, linked together by the theme of the life and traditions of mountain. In addition, there will be literary meetings, exhibitions, workshops, concerts, excursions and a rich food and wine offer in the Festival Square.
Soave Cinema Festival (14 – 17 September) will have as its theme the nourish the body and the spiritdedicating his selection of documentaries to land and its products, to the harmonious vision of the man-planet relationship and to the attention to sustainable agriculture and breeding. The screenings will be held in the Meeting Room of Borgo Rocca Sveva.
Legnago Film Fest (5 – 8 October) will take place in Salieri Theater and will have as theme “cinema and music“. There will be special events, such as period films with live soundtracks, guests of honor and concerts. In addition, there will also be screenings for schools and workshops, thanks to the collaboration with the Fioroni Foundation.
Valpolicella Film Festival (2 – 5 November) will take place in the lands that gave rise to the writer Emilio Salgariwith the theme of voyage and of distant lands. A particular look will be given to young and their way of experiencing travel and exploration, through a focus on eco-sustainable forms of mobility.
