Liverpool and Real Madrid have crossed swords seven times in the Champions League. The record speaks for the royals, who were able to win four duels. The Reds, on the other hand, have not won any of their last five matches (four defeats, one draw).
Liverpool FC has been in strong shape over the past few months. Jürgen Klopp’s team suffered their last defeat in early March. In the Premier League, Virgil van Dijk, Thiago & Co. have been unbeaten since the end of December. In the fight for the championship, however, the Reds had to admit defeat to Manchester City after a dramatic final day of play. At the end of the season, the runners-up celebrated a 3-1 home win against Wolverhampton Wanderers. On the way to the Champions League final, the English runners-up prevailed against Inter Milan, Benfica and Villarreal.
With Paris Saint-Germain, Chelsea and Manchester City, Real Madrid had to overcome much heavier opponents in the knockout phase. Both in the quarter-finals against Chelsea and in the semi-finals against Man City, the royal team went into extra time. In the Primera Division, Carlo Ancelotti’s team already secured the championship at the end of April. The capital club, who had to settle for a goalless draw against Betis Sevilla last weekend, ended the season 13 points ahead of FC Barcelona.
