Despite the relatively sovereign runner-up, the Marco Rose chapter at Borussia Dortmund is already over. According to Bild the 45-year-old stumbled over several obstacles.
In the press release on Rose’s dismissal, BVB boss Hans-Joachim Watzke announced “that we did not get the most out of our opportunities in many areas”. All in all, Watzke gave his club a season that “was unsatisfactory for various reasons” – so it came as a big surprise to the separation.
sea SkyThe season analysis, in which the end was ultimately decided, was “long and loud”. “The club and the coaches had different views on several issues,” it said.
Die Bild also mentions several aspects of why the black and yellow made the change of coach:
Of course, the focus is on the miserable performance in the cup competitions. The Champions League round of 16 was missed despite a very feasible group, in the Europa League they lost early to Glasgow Rangers. In addition, they made a fool of themselves in the DFB Cup at FC St. Pauli and thus frivolously squandered what is probably the greatest chance of winning the title.
In addition, the BVB bosses criticized the high number of goals conceded that BVB had to swallow this season. There were 52 in the Bundesliga – more than since 2007/08. BVB conceded as many as Bochum (52) or Arminia Bielefeld (53). Simply unacceptable, especially since there were some bitter slippers.
Just think of the 2:5 against Leverkusen, the 1:4 against Leipzig, the 2:3 at Hertha and the most recent 3:4 against Bochum. Also internationally (0: 4 & 1: 3 against Ajax, 2: 4 against Rangers, 1: 3 against Sporting) one got under the wheels too often and had to accept many goals.
“The frequency of this hearty clapping frightened those responsible in Dortmund and led to the coach being kicked out,” writes the Bild.
Furthermore, Rose is also attached to the many injury problems. There is talk of wrong training in this context – although it should be mentioned here that BVB had many injuries even before Rose’s arrival. This allegation is therefore not really tenable.
What also led to the end: “The BVB bosses also see weaknesses in Rose when it comes to tactics and team formation.” Accordingly, Rose is said to have often reacted too late or wrongly.
Finally, Rose is also accused of a certain thin-skinnedness. Instead of giving the desired communicator, the 45-year-old was “increasingly thin-skinned and annoyed” in his behavior – probably also due to his experiences at ex-club Borussia Mönchengladbach.
