Gambling streams have been the focus of controversy after xQc revealed that he has lost nearly $2 million gambling. This prompted ex-Twitch streamer, now under exclusive YouTube contract, Ludwig, to step in and ask Twitch to ban sponsored betting streams on the platform.
In a video titled “Twitch Needs to Stop Gambling Streamers,” the streamer said the platform needs to take clear action against these types of streamers.
Many fans and streamers have criticized xQc for his gambling addiction, but instead of blaming him, Ludwig believes the fault lies with the platform for allowing sponsored gambling streams which are sponsored.
“It’s a problem, but I don’t think the onus should be on the streamer to bet or not,” Ludwig said. “We shouldn’t depend on humans to have the morality we’re looking for. They must not be an ethical person. It must be the platform. The platform is the one that must dictate what is good and what is not.
Twitch has yet to release an official statement about the new wave of betting streams on its own site. And the platform’s biggest creator shows no signs of stopping anytime soon.
