After promotion to the Bundesliga, VfL Bochum was seen as a clear candidate for relegation. In the end, VfL confidently secured relegation and caused a sensation with victories against Bayern and BVB. Sports director Sebastian Schindzielorz and coach Thomas Reis have played a major role in the great development of the club. How long will the two creators remain with VfL?
Schindzielorz’s contract expires at the end of the year, Reis is committed until June 2023. the WAZ now reports that the signs at Schindzielorz are more likely to say goodbye, while Reis could extend his contract in the summer.
According to this, the CEO of Bochum, Hans-Peter Villis, is convinced that the successful coach will stay. There are clear signals from both sides to continue the cooperation. As soon as Reis returns from vacation, a contract extension could also be officially announced. Rumors that the 48-year-old has an exit clause are wrong.
The case of sports director Schindzielorz is different. Talks are still ongoing with the native of Poland about extending his working paper, the outcome is open. If it turns out that Schindzielorz will not extend his contract, a premature separation is still possible in the summer. With Ilja Kaenzig, who currently acts as spokesman for the management, a successor would be available within the association. Regardless of his uncertain future, the 43-year-old is working flat out on the new squad.
Most recently, both Schindzielorz and Reis were linked to VfL Wolfsburg. While Lower Saxony is likely to rely on Niko Kovac as the coach, Schindzielorz could succeed the retiring Jörg Schmadtke. The managing director will leave the wolves at the end of January 2023.
