Mercedes-AMG Vision AMG
Mercedes-AMG may have its first fully electrically powered series model based on the EQS, but the AMG trim is not really distinctive compared to the regular EQS. Rest assured, Mercedes-AMG also comes with its own electric models, for which no Mercedes-EQ serves as a basis.
Mercedes-AMG is currently working hard on developing its own platform. It is one of several bottom sections that the parent company of Mercedes’ motorsport branch is developing. There will be a special platform for EQ itself, where a distinction will be made between the large and smaller models. The group is working on a different bottom section for AMG. It will take quite some time before the architecture is ready for production, but the technical values of the AMG.EA platform are already known in the design department. That is why the design studio of the German car manufacturer is already working on the first model. The first independent electric AMG is on the agenda for 2025 or 2026.
four-door coupe
The design department of Mercedes-AMG is already lifting a corner of the design veil. With the Vision AMG, a predictable name for the study model, the design branch indicates the direction. Striking features of the concept car are the long wheelbase, the short overhangs at the front and rear, the large wheels and the large rear spoiler. Also pay attention to the light units. These are not the usual aquariums on the corners of the front, but three light strips have been chosen for the study model. Together, the lighting elements form the famous Mercedes star. For the body design, the design department has opted for a four-door coupé, a body that the motorsport department currently also offers exclusively within the Mercedes program. The successor to the GT 4-door Coupé will therefore have an electric powertrain.
Active Aerodynamics
Despite the similarity with the existing model, the Vision AMG is an independent design. The manufacturer states that it started from a blank sheet of paper. The Vision EQXX has been closely examined for the lines. That model forms the aerodynamic basis for future models. Aerodynamics are also an important subject for the Vision AMG. In addition to the smooth and sleek shape, the car has a modified floor and an active spoiler in the rear. For the sporty driving character, the battery is placed lower in the bottom section, when you place the platform next to that of the EQS. Incidentally, the technical basis of the EQS and therefore of the EQE has only been used for a short time. The replacements for those limousines will have a different platform, which is currently being developed in parallel with the AMG.EA platform. It’s called MB.EA.
