The end of heat engines, petrol, diesel and hybrids now seems to have a certain date, namely that of 2035. From words to deeds why 25 European companies industry, energy and services sign an appeal to ask for a stop to the sale of new diesel, petrol and hybrid vehicles by 2035. Among these there are also Volvo, Ford, Enel X And Uber.
The appeal, proposed by the NGO Transport & Environmentis addressed to the European Commissionthe European Parliament and the national governments.
Stop sales of petrol, diesel and hybrid cars, when?
The document asks to approve the package ‘Fit-for-55’, which will ban the sale of new petrol, diesel and hybrid cars in Europe. In the appeal we read the Commission will propose new objectives of CO2 reduction in June as part of its legislative package ‘Fit for 55’which aims to put the EU on track for reduce emissions overall by at least 55% by 2030 and achieve net zero emissions by 2050.

This and much more is reported in theenvironmental public appeal and open to subscription by any European company wishing to join the group. The goal is to: “Remove burning vehicles from the road fossil fuels is imperative to allow Europe to reach its net zero emissions target by 2050 and to help avoid the worst impacts of climate change on people and the planet “
According to the signatory companies, passenger cars and light commercial vehicles are responsible for 15% of all carbon dioxide emissions in Europe and also represent the largest source (26%) of toxic emissions of nitrogen oxide, which cause chronic diseases and the premature death of 54,000 Europeans every year. To these effects must be added i direct costs of around 200 billion euros spent every year in Europe for the import of oil.
Push to sell electric cars
The environmentalist turning point according to the signatories lies in theelectric which has the opportunity to replace internal combustion engines. To date they cover a share of just over 10% of vehicles sold in Europe. To stop the sale of other types of cars, according to the appeal, would provide a clear signal to car manufacturers, suppliers of charging infrastructure, the energy sector and financial institutions to make the investments necessary for the “transition”.

Applying obligations to all new vehicles sold in Europe by 2035 according to the environmental appeal accelerates the availability of new and second-hand electric cars to affordable prices.
