In the first episode, true Amsterdammer Remco, together with his wife Lean and their two children, take on the challenge. The family has to leave the capital with great reluctance. Their current apartment – with the two children – is becoming too small, but they cannot afford a bigger house in Amsterdam. For this reason, they have asked Natasja Froger and her team for help to help them find their dream home.
The couple does have a number of conditions. For example, they both work in Amsterdam and they don’t want to have to travel more than an hour to work. Their maximum budget is also 500,000 euros. For the children, Remco and Lean would like to have their own bedroom and a roof terrace or garden. “Preferably you have some sun in the afternoon, so that you can have a nice barbecue”, Remco adds. A marina is also a must for this couple. They currently live at the Sloterplas in Amsterdam and have their own boat in which they regularly sail. Location wise they are not that difficult. Remco and Lean are fine with ‘between Amsterdam and Limburg’.
The family is presented with four houses by the real estate agents. The first house is located in the village of Koog aan de Zaan and is glued to Amsterdam. Remco and Lean are impressed by the house. “For me, this could be a contender,” Lean says. The asking price of the first home is 425,000 euros. The second house, in Hippolytushoef, is also popular and costs 385.00 euros. House number three is located in Uddel and evokes nostalgic feelings for Remco. “This is home for me,” says Remco. This house was also approved by the couple and with an asking price of 389.00 euros, the broker managed to delight them. The last house is located in Vreeland and because it is close to Amsterdam, native Amsterdammer Remco was already satisfied. “You can almost smell the canals. That is a safe, familiar feeling.” With an asking price of 475.00 euros, they did not think twice. They decided to go ‘trial living’ in the last house, in Vreeland. This gives them a week to test out their potential home.
After a week of trial living and long deliberation, the couple decided to make an offer on the house in Vreeland. “We dare to take that step. We have to do something and we also want something,” Lean tells Natasja. They changed their mind after the broadcast. “Initially we had the plan to do it, but after carefully reconsidering and listing all the pros and cons, we decided not to do it.” The house in Vreeland turned out not to meet all wishes, so the couple decided to look further. They have therefore not been idle and have found a new construction project in the Zaan region. “We were lucky. We were drawn,” Lean says proudly. “We hope to be able to enter in 2023, so we have to be patient.” And the true Amsterdammer can also breathe a sigh of relief, because their new home is ‘under the smoke of Amsterdam’ and ‘meets everything’ they are looking for.
Viewers of the program are less enthusiastic about this ‘plot twist’. Someone writes: ‘Still such a deception.’ Another viewer wrote on Twitter: ‘Well beautiful. Been away for the weekend. Thanks for the time.’
