The Bundesliga season 2021/22 is over. Time for us to look back on the season in the German Oberhaus. We choose our top 10 players per position group. The central defenders give part two of the series.
Our evaluation includes both the individual performance and the importance for one’s own team. Instead of numerous statistics, our focus is on our subjective assessment. As the name suggests, the reviews are our subjective opinions, open for discussion. Hübers came to the billy goats from Hanover on a free transfer before the season and was initially only a second choice under Steffen Baumgart. That only changed permanently with the 16th matchday. Hübers was in the starting eleven in the 3-2 win against Wolfsburg and from then on was always on the pitch for more than 90 minutes (was only absent on matchdays 25 and 29 due to a corona infection or a yellow card suspension).
With Hübers, Effzeh clearly gained stability in defense. The 25-year-old proved to be a good tackler and strong in the build-up game. In this form, he is an integral part of the Cologne team.
