On the last match day, Hertha BSC slipped to 16th place and is now fighting in the relegation against HSV to stay in the Bundesliga. The Berliners may have to do without goalkeeper Marcel Lotka. The 20-year-old broke his nose and suffered a slight concussion in the game against BVB.
Shortly before the half-time whistle, Lotka cleared in dire need against BVB defender Zagadou, whose failed cross almost ended up in the goal. During his save, however, the Berlin goalkeeper crashed into the left post and then had to be treated for a few minutes. Although substitute goalkeeper Oliver Christensen was already warming up, Lotka continued playing until the final whistle. In the two goals conceded in the second round, the Pole was powerless.
As it turned out after the game, Lotka broke his nose when he accidentally hit the post and suffered a slight concussion. In view of the severity of the injury, the question arises as to why Hertha’s medical department did not arrange for the goalkeeper to be replaced immediately.
It is not yet clear whether Lotka will be able to play in the relegation against HSV. Since Alexander Schwolow, who originally started the season as number one, has been out for a long time due to a tendon injury in his thigh, Oliver Christensen would move between the posts. However, the 23-year-old Dane, who joined from Odense BK before the season, has yet to play a single Bundesliga game.
