A football festival at 1. FC Nürnberg. So this game had been announced in advance by both clubs. The circumstances have long been clear: Schalke has already been promoted and the chances of the additional championship are good. The fact that such a celebration takes place in the best weather when two friendly clubs meet gave the whole thing the right setting.
However, in the first half it was also noticeable that it wasn’t really about anything anymore. The S04 managers around Mike Büskens had previously announced that they wanted to take the championship title with them. But of course there was a certain drop in tension compared to the previous week.
The only, but very big highlight of the first 45 minutes: A real artistic shot by Rodrigo Zalazar, fired from 58 (!) meters. FCN keeper Carl Klaus was no longer able to intercept the perfectly placed shot, which also flew directly into the goal and did not touch down beforehand. A worthy contender for goal of the month if not goal of the year. The jaws of all spectators dropped accordingly – not only among the supporters of royal blue.
In the second half, the game was largely unspectacular. Most of the scenes took place in midfield. For the Royal Blues, Blendi Idrizi and Victor Palsson (62′), Henning Matriciani and Kerim Calhanoglu (75′) and Andreas Vindheim (84′) made further appearances.
It became more entertaining within the last five regular minutes. First, Nuremberg secured the 1-1 equalizer – which would not have cost S04 the championship. Two minutes later, Simon Terodde scored to make it 1-2. He scored his 30th goal of the season.
In the end, the result is okay, although it is by no means the focus. The most important decisions had already been made in the previous week. Still, a good end to a strong season for Schalke. Finally crowned with the championship celebration together with the accompanying appendages.
