“It has become like a religious war, there is nothing more logical. I think the big news here is that they are still the same as 20 or 40 years ago. I’m still willing to make the dream movie, even if I have to put my own money, and I’m able to put in $ 100 million if I have to. I don’t want to, but I will if necessary.
I am committed to making this film, I would like to do it in the fall of 2022. I haven’t approved my entire cast, but I am confident it will be a very exciting cast. The film will cost between $ 100 million and $ 120 million. Needless to say, I hope it is closer to 100 million. I am ready to match some external funding, almost dollar for dollar. In other words, i am willing to put my money“.
Although it is now more than ten years, since 2011, that the director has not made new titles, he is ready to go back behind the camera to direct Megalopolis, at the age of 82. This time Coppola he seems really sure about the success of the film, although there are still many uncertainties, especially regarding production costs. As he himself stated, these are very high figures, between 100 and 120 million dollars, for a more than ambitious project that looks like a real colossal.
What is it about Megalopolis?

Megalopolis is set in our day, in New York, where an architect has an ambitious and utopian plan of rebuild the entire city, destroyed by a catastrophe. The project would be to make a story that is capable of inspire young people viewers and society in search of optimism during a period marked by global warming, a political scene characterized by deep contrasts and digital disinformation.

The project of Megalopolis is becoming more and more concrete and, as proof of this, the actors who will officially play the protagonists of the film have been chosen. Recall that in the past Coppola he had already mentioned some actors he would like to collaborate with, such as: Oscar Isaac, Cate Blanchett, Zendaya, Forest Whitaker, Jon Voight, Michelle Pfeiffer And Jessica Lange.
In particular, Oscar Isaac would have had the role of the leading architect but, just recently, the actor has pulled back from the project and his place has been taken by Adam Driver. Alongside the latter, the presence of Forest Whitaker and Join Voight. It is also added Nathalie Emmanuel.
