It couldn’t get any more dramatic: VfB Stuttgart saved themselves to 15th place in the table thanks to a last-minute win against 1. FC Köln and can therefore look forward to another season in the Bundesliga. After the final whistle, the home fans stormed the pitch.
First, the VfB professionals hugged, but a little later they found themselves in the center of a massive fan party on the pitch. The focus was on match winner Wataru Endo, who felt like hugging every spectator on the way to the dressing room.

Stuttgart went into the half-time break 1-0 as a much stronger side thanks to a goal by Kalajdzic and then had to cope with Anthony Modeste’s 1-1 draw. As is well known, Wataru Endo was responsible for this in injury time.
In the end, sporting director Sven Mislintat’s trust in head coach Pellegrino Matarazzo paid off after all. After the relegation celebrations, however, the impending exodus of stars like Kalajdzic, Sosa and Co. will have to be addressed.
