Some time ago we told you about the Chilean video game Tormented Souls, which is inspired by the classic games Resident Evil and Alone in the Dark and was released for PS5 and Steam with a demo available.
The game has already sold more than 200,000 copies since its launch in August last year and was developed by the Abstract Digital Works and Dual Effect Games studios, a studio that is a venture created by a pair of twin brothers from Quilpué, of whom we can learn more thanks to an interview published in Laquintaemprende.cl.

These are the brothers Gabriel and Germán Araneda, who, as they indicate, have been fans of video games since they were little, “especially of the Survival Horror genre, such as the old Resident Evil, Alone in The Dark, Silent Hill, Dino Crisis, among other outstanding gems of the time”.
“When we realized with my brother that the old Survival Horror formula was not going to come back, at least not from the big developers, we decided to make our own old-school survival horror, one that was by gamers for gamers” Gabriel indicated.

They also say that like many fans of game development, they began by learning tutorials on Internet sites such as YouTube, thanks to which they learned to program in Unity and after a while, they created the first prototype of Tormented Souls, of which they published a small progress on Twitter, which bore fruit as days later they were contacted by publishers from the United States, Germany, England, among others.
“We finally closed a deal with a publisher from England and decided to create our micro-company, Dual Effect SpA with the purpose of developing video games that can compete head-to-head in a market as large and hostile as the video game market,” said Gabriel.

Now his new horizon is to launch Tormented Souls in Asia for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, XBox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, Steam and GOG, in Spanish, Chinese, Korean, Japanese, French, Italian, Portuguese, English and Russian. , in addition to the help of Corfo’s Reactivation Support Program (PAR) for Creative Industries, his next project will be developed in Unreal Engine 5.
“For us, this help from Corfo has been incalculable to continue growing as a company and to continue developing quality video games. Tormented Souls was developed in Unity, a very competent graphics engine, but in the project that we are currently developing we decided to go further and use Unreal Engine 5, which means a great graphic leap. Thanks to the computers that we were able to buy with the help of the PAR program, we now have the opportunity to work with this technology that will allow us to create an international-level product,” said Gabriel Araneda.
