It’s already From Software’s best-selling game.
Without a doubt, Elden Ring has been one of the great bombings so far this year. New from the creators of Dark Souls got break the player niche of previous From Software offerings and becoming a social phenomenon that flooded social networks for weeks, is still very active. Bandai Namco has updated the number of copies of Elden Ring sold to date and it’s complete madness.
In mid-March we heard the news that Elden Ring had already surpassed 12 million copies sold, but Bandai Namco’s latest financial report shows that until the end of March they were sold in total 13.4 million units (via VG247). Taking into account that Dark Souls III has managed to move about 10 million games to date, Elden Ring becomes From Software’s best-selling game and one of the biggest premieres in Bandai Namco’s history.
To this should be added the games sold in April and so far in May, easily could be around 15 million games sold to date and surpass the 20 million mark before the end of the year. A totally crazy figure for a game of a genre until recently considered niche, as souls have commonly been.
The future of Elden Ring
It is clear that Elden Ring has become one of the most important names of Bandai Namco and From Software, now it only remains to be seen how both companies will try to take advantage of that immense community of fans that they have harvested in recent months. At the moment, the arrival of DLC to Elden Ring is taken for granted soon, while Bandai Namco studies the possibility of bring the universe of the game to other audiovisual formats such as series, movies, animes, etc.
