HSV raised a whopping 13 million euros from the sale of Douglas Santos to Zenit St. Petersburg. In addition, the second division club has secured a clause that states that an additional payment of 500,000 euros will be due with each championship. Whether the coal will find its way to the Elbe this year is not entirely certain.
In the last two years, the Hamburg sports club’s plan has definitely worked. As expected, Zenit and Douglas Santos have secured the championship twice in a row, which has already resulted in an additional one million euros.
Three games before the end, the Russian top club made it clear to win the title again this season. In view of the war in Ukraine, however, it is not certain whether the money will end up in Hamburg. Russia is cut off from the outside world in many areas, including financial transactions.
To make matters worse, Russian clubs have been banned from international competitions. This of course makes the financial situation more difficult, which is why the willingness to pay for outstanding bills is not quite there.
From HSV’s point of view, it is to be hoped that everything will go smoothly and that the 500,000 euros will arrive. After several years of abstinence from the upper house, half a million is already a lot of money for the red trousers.
The North Germans will also hope that the player doesn’t run away and stays with Zenit until his contract expires in 2026. This can make a difference of two million euros for the club. In view of the situation in Russia, the Brazilian would not be blamed for insisting on a farewell.
