Darko Churlinov would like to stay at Schalke 04 – but there is no purchase option. Sven Mislintat is suddenly more reluctant to return to VfB Stuttgart.
Darko Churlinov has been an important personality at Schalke since the start of the season. The only 21-year-old offensive player was loaned out by Stuttgart last summer. Already in his first games he showed great ambition and absolute will.
He still hasn’t lost that. Even if he is not as often in the starting XI as some others, especially in the last few weeks under Mike Büskens, who preferred the strong Dominick Drexler, he is an important piece of the puzzle for S04 in the promotion race.
The fans also like the North Macedonian, who throws himself into every duel in the truest sense of the word and poses an offensive goal threat. This sympathy also applies to reciprocity. Churlinov’s agent recently stated that he would like to stay at Royal Blue.
However, due to the lack of a purchase option, this scenario is difficult. In December, Sven Mislintat, sporting director at VfB, was also very clear: “It was and is our clear plan for Darko to return to VfB after the current season.” You are happy about the times, but the loan will remain a loan.
In the meantime, however, he has shown himself to be much more reserved in comparison. “It’s definitely an option that he comes back to us. That’s quite clear. Darko is our boy,” he explained to the Stuttgart News.
From a “clear plan” to an “option” – a very clear change. Above all in the football business, where players and those responsible choose their words with great care when it comes to transfers.
How to proceed with Churlinov will be discussed after the end of the season. He was “welcome to see him” in Stuttgart, added Mislintat.
It’s probably not too big an interpretation if you assume from the words that Schalke now have a chance of a permanent commitment. Of course, it remains to be seen how this chance would look, especially financially, and whether the Gelsenkircheners would want to keep him at all.
