Milos Veljkovic’s contract expires in the summer. Should Werder Bremen succeed in promotion, there is apparently nothing standing in the way of an extension.
A final decision is aloud Bild not fallen yet. Before the 2:3 draw against Kiel, the injured central defender surrendered Sky: “I feel good here. I love the fans, I love the club. We’ll see.” When asked if he would play his next Bundesliga game in a Werder shirt, the 26-year-old said: “I hope.”
In plain language, that means: If Bremen manages to get promoted to the upper house, Veljkovic will extend his working paper. If the green-whites fail in the promotion race, the defender is gone. Rumor has it that Union Berlin put out its feelers to the 1.88 meter giant.
With 24 appearances this season, the Serbian national player, who has been active in Bremen since 2016, is one of the absolute regulars on the Weser. Most recently against Schalke and against Kiel, however, Veljkovic had to take a break due to a torn muscle fiber in his calf.
In the next game against Aue, the defensive specialist should return to the pitch. At least when it comes to his boss Ole Werner. “We are working towards him being available again against Aue”according to the Werder coach (via Bild).
Bremen are currently in second place with a three-point lead over the relegation place, but are in danger of being overtaken by Darmstadt. The lilies have played one game less and meet the penultimate team from Aue on Saturday evening.
