The Tunisia Desert Challenge 2022 ended yesterday with the victory for Alessandro Botturi on board the new Yamaha Ténéré Rally, on his first race outing. The event ended after two days of storm and wind, with the last special shortened to 260 kilometers, all extremely fast, with no more dunes, but with a lot of navigation, sometimes even deceptive.
All according to program
The last day of the rally began with Alessandro started first, ahead of his opponents Jerome Martiny and Mathieu Doveze and he obviously made a strategy, being the forerunner. Bottu did not take any risk, given the 9 minutes advantage he had in the standings over the Belgian and 13 over the French, and thus exercised constant control over the opponents throughout the special stage. The stage therefore saw Botturi finish fifth with 3 minutes behind Neels Theric, but without losing practically anything from his closest rivals.
An absolute novelty
The pilot from Lumezzane in this way he won his first international victory on the Yamaha twin-cylinder: “I’m overjoyed – says a radiant Botturi–. I took this bike to my debut and winning is really an immense satisfaction and I must say good to all the guys who have worked here this week, engineers and mechanics. And we must not think that it was a simple week, quite the contrary. It wasn’t easy, it was a demanding race and some difficult days, but we made it “. The new Ténéré has been developed over the past 12 months, with several changes in weight distribution and chassis that have improved the behavior of the Iwata twin-cylinder average.. Obviously the arrival point of this route will be the Africa Eco Race next October, when the route and the opponents will be of a completely different nature. In this sense it was nevertheless comforting to see that for about 2 thousand kilometers the Yamaha had no reliability problems, the first step towards a solid performance even in a longer marathon.
