The first free practice session took place at the Jerez circuit with a Joan Mir who completed the round in front of everyone, signing the best time in 1’38.194 Just 25 thousandths behind he closed his teammate Alex Rins and so began the Spanish weekend with a good Suzuki double. It was the “home” riders who got off to a good start, animated by the public who returned to the stands after two years, and Alex Marquez took his Honda of the LR team to third position. Fourth time for the first European bike in the standings, namely the Aprilia RS-GP of Aleix Espargarò intending to get on the podium and thus make the Noale manufacturer lose the concessions. In fact, he only needs a podium to be on par with the other manufacturers and the bike has reached a rather high level today.
Ducati and Italians in trouble?
The top 5 is completed by Fabio Quartararo, reigning champion and today first in the championship, who was also the author of a bad crash in which he was hit by his own bike. The Frenchman then managed to get back on track and pays just two and a half tenths from the first. We find Italians far beyond the top 10: Enea Bastianini is twelfth, Francesco Bagnaia still not in its best form thirteenth, while Franco Morbidelli is fifteenth. If we take a look at the Ducati house, the first “red” is from Jack Miller tenth, half a second from the first, on a track where he won last year much more is expected. The Hondas of Takaaki Nakagamisixth, and Pol Espargarò eighth, while he remained at his feet Marc Marquezsix tenths from the top.
