Honda and Sony together to produce electric vehicles

Honda Motors and Sony Group Corporation have announced their intention to form, by the end of 2022, a joint venture that they will deal with develop and sell electric vehicles. Beyond that, the group wants to implement a whole new ecosystem around these new vehicles. So not just electric motorcycles (and cars), but a complete structure behind them. This could include its own charging systems, as Tesla does with its superchargers, or stations for battery replacement. With this in mind, the roles of the two companies in this new partnership have been clarified: Honda will build the vehicles and Sony will develop the electronics and all the services related to mobility. We can therefore imagine offers for leasing, sharing or facilitated maintenance packages.

On the other hand, Honda’s intention to enter the world of electric mobility had already been clear for some time. Already in 2011 the Japanese manufacturer had brought the prototype of the RCE, a mid-engined electric sports bike (you can see it in the gallery at the opening). In addition, in April last year, the House presented a roadmap for electric vehicles, which it announced the first four two-wheeled electric vehicles expected in 2024. The first vehicle of this new joint venture should instead be sold in 2025. It is not known whether it will be a two-wheeled vehicle, but given the investments involved it is more likely that the first vehicle born from this collaboration will be a ‘ car. We will then see what the future holds.
