While Gerard Piqué’s sporting career is drawing to a close, the 35-year-old Spaniard is only just beginning to thaw out as a businessman. The defender is said to have received millions for the fact that the Spanish Super Cup takes place in Saudi Arabia – he is also said to have betrayed Sergio Ramos.
There are dubious stories that Gerard Piqué is writing these days. The player is now supposed to earn more income from marketing than from his professional work. The defender markets the Davies Cup with his sports agency consortium “Kosmos”, while his company has also just bought the broadcasting rights for Ligue 1 in Spain.
Now the Barcelona star is said to have received millions for the award of the Super Cup to Saudi Arabia. The Spanish Newspaper The confidential even speaks of 24 million euros that the kicker should receive in six years.
Piqué is said to be the mastermind behind the transfer of the Supercup to Saudi Arabia, which has been in existence as an artificially inflated Final Four tournament since 2020. Rumor has it that Kosmos has even negotiated a contract with the Saudi Arabian state company Sela until 2029, which would also line the player’s pockets.
According to the Spanish source, there are also audio snippets showing a conversation between Piqué and Luis Rubiales, head of the Spanish Football Federation RFEF.
“Look, Rubi, if Real Madrid doesn’t go below eight million euros, my God, then the Saudis will just pay eight million to Real and eight to Barcelona. Then they’ll pay the other two participants two and one million… that’s left six for the association. If we tell them that Real will not go along for under eight million, then they have to give in. Let’s squeeze the Saudis,” Piqué said (via sports picture) have demanded.
After completing the deal, Rubiales reportedly congratulated the player on the deal being done. The audio files should also show that the player asked the head of the association to be nominated for the Olympic squad.
Someone consciously plays off his good relationship with powerful people…
Opposite of Brand the central defender was not aware of any guilt. “I don’t regret it, I think we did a very good job. We did a great job and I don’t think anything was wrong, legally or morally,” he is quoted as saying by the Spanish newspaper.
Contradicting this, he also noted that the Supercup was “property of the Spanish federation” and that he had “little say” himself.
Only a short time later, Piqué attracted attention with the next story. The reason for this is that the 35-year-old is said to have “cheated” his long-time central defender colleague Sergio Ramos, according to the Spanish and English media.
But what happened? Piqué is said to have secretly transmitted a voice message from Ramos to the president of the Spanish Football Federation. All of that apparently happened amid a dispute over the governance of the Spanish Football Federation. As part of the voice message, Piqué is said to have asked the then Real star about his opinion on the relationship between Rubiales and football official David Aganzo. What Ramos then replied is not known, but Piqué is said to have forwarded exactly this answer to Rubiales.
“Rubi, this is a message that Sergio Ramos sent me. Keep it to yourself. Please keep it confidential,” the Barca star reportedly wrote.
Coach Xavi declined to comment on the matter. “He’s outgoing and likes to get attention,” he said ahead of the game against Real Sociedad.
But it is clear that the “funny stories” are piling up at Piqué and the defender does not seem to be necessarily loyal to his fellow men. Among other things, there is said to be a dispute between the (probably former) good friends Messi and Piqué. The Spaniard is said to have asked Laporta that the club let the Argentine go to ease the mountain of debt.
These stories are almost certainly not pure coincidence. The player already seems to enjoy influencing and acting for their own benefit. There is probably one of the dark side of money addicted. Actually, the “perfect” FIFA President of tomorrow.
