New reports indicate that Microsoft is working on an improved chip for Xbox Series X, according to a journalist.
Journalist Brad Sams discussed the topic in a recent video looking at all things gaming and tech news. A viewer asked about reviews of the Series X console and Sams responded by saying that he thinks reviews are already being developed.
“I think this is true… I know that Microsoft was working on revisions to the chip,” he said.
“Now, are we going to see performance improvements, are we going to see something else? I don’t think so, but Microsoft is always working to make chips smaller and more power efficient. I mean, I’m very confident in that.”
That Microsoft is developing an upgraded chip for the Xbox Series X shouldn’t come as much of a surprise. As Sams emphasizes, the tech giant will always be iterating on its hardware designs to lower production costs. We’ve already seen Sony swap out the PS5’s heatsink for a more cost-effective design for the same issue.
While this latest iteration may not introduce radical changes to the console, it will certainly bring some improvements for new Xbox Series X|S owners. A more efficient chip means the console will draw less power, allowing it to run cooler and potentially quieter. That may seem inconsequential, but anyone who’s looked at the back of their Xbox and seen layers of dust clogging the vents will be grateful hardware manufacturers are taking these issues into account.
