seesaw season
The Dutch Tile Wippen Championships is a championship in which you replace as many tiles as possible for green. This year, the Dutch National Championships will run from March 21 to October 31, 2022. The battle is being waged by various municipalities in the Netherlands, where more than 100 municipalities have already registered. In addition, everyone can participate individually by replacing his or her tiles with greenery in their own garden.
Starting shot
The starting signal for the Dutch Championships was given on 21 March by none other than TV gardener and NK Tegelwippen ambassador Lodewijk Hoekstra. In no time, municipalities all over the Netherlands were rocking tiles. The ultimate goal is to replace millions of tiles with plants, trees, lawns and other greenery in the six months that the Dutch Championship lasts.
Of course, all of this has to be recorded somewhere. The organization of the NK Tegelwippen therefore has a Tile Counter on its website. At the time of writing, it is already on almost 90,000 wiped tiles. You can also enter your flipped tiles here to make the number grow.
Not for nothing
Of course, a prize cannot be missed at a championship. This year there are four prizes to be won: 1 Golden Tile and 3 Golden Spades. There are different rankings and per ranking the municipality with the highest TPI (removed tiles per 1000 inhabitants) receives a Golden Scoop. The Golden Tile goes to the municipality with the most flipped tiles.
The importance of green
Of course NK Tegelwippen is not only about the prizes you can win with it. The organization wants to achieve that the entire country is committed to making the Netherlands greener.
If our country becomes greener, we will become more climate-proof, insects and animals find it more interesting – which is also good for the ecosystem – and it is cooler on warmer days.
In addition, tiles are often much less beautiful to look at than a green oasis in the garden. So grab your shovel and get started! In this way we all make our country a little greener and better.
