Since signing from Sporting CP in January 2020, Bruno Fernandes has managed to become an important player for Manchester United to help the attacking sector, thus making the club decide to give a new contract.
As is known, the Portuguese player has just received a long-term contract that will keep him at Old Trafford, at least until 2026 or when he is 32 years old.
Even though he has been given a new contract and he continues to be a mainstay to fill MU’s attacking wing, Paul Merson actually feels that the Red Devils have made the wrong decision by giving Bruno a long contract duration.
Instead of criticizing the former Udinese player’s qualities, Merson was surprised by this new contract problem, because Bruno Fernandes might not have a regular place with the future Man United coach.
“I’m not saying he’s a bad player, but how can they give someone a five-year contract when the team doesn’t even have a permanent coach,” Merson said.
“What if an inter coach comes in and doesn’t like Fernandes, because it’s possible the coach won’t like the way he raises his hand, because of his frustration or his style of play.”
Despite these doubts, he has so far made a positive contribution by scoring nine goals and 14 . assist in 38 matches in all competitions for MU.
