One of the attractions of the new PlayStation Plus is the possibility of enjoying classic games from previous Sony consoles. The company promises a library of 340 PlayStation 3 titles as part of the Premium subscription. However, there is an important detail: the games will work only through the cloud and cannot be downloaded.
Unfortunately, this means that this benefit is not available in all regions, including Latin America, which lacks PlayStation Now and the brand’s cloud gaming infrastructure. According to recent reports, this could change in the future thanks to a Sony project related to PS3.
According to a reliable source, the company may be working on a solution to offer PS3 game emulation on PS5. This without relying on the cloud and game streaming.

Will Sony bring back the legacy of PS3 on PS5? source gives hope
Some announcements related to the new PlayStation Plus disappointed the community. One of them is undoubtedly the impossibility of downloading and enjoying PlayStation 3 games, since said library will only work through the cloud.
Jeff Grubb, editor de VentureBeat (via VGC), stated that this could change in the distant future. The informant does not rule out that Sony is working on emulation as such of PlayStation 3 for PlayStation 5, a task that for many seems very complicated or even impossible.
This due to the architecture of the old console and its Cell processor. On the other hand, part of the community believes emulation is entirely possible, so bet Sony will pull it off, but not any time soon.
“Since we talked about this all week, I have searched, I have asked… It seems that Sony could be working on PS3 emulation on PS5. It may take some time. I wish they would come out and tell us that. Tell us you care about these things because that’s what was missing from the PS Plus announcement… to me, it seemed like you didn’t care about any of it. They just put it together, gave it a new name and sold it,” Grubb said.
Although the informant has proven to be a good source, the reality is that Sony has not confirmed anything for now. In fact, it may be a long time before we know more about it, as the company still has many details to reveal and clarify about its new service.
