Indian midfielder Danish Farooq has expressed his delight after making his international debut for his country against Bahrain in a friendly last week.
The Blue Tigers lost the game but Farooq was one of the best performers for the Blue Tigers in midfield.
After an impressive season with Bengaluru FC in the ISL 2021-22, India coach Igor Stimac selected him for the preparation camp ahead of the games against Bahrain and Belarus. He then made it to the final squad.
“Dreams do come true. It has been an emotional few months but last night was something truly special. Honoured beyond belief to represent the country and stand alongside some of the best players of the land. Would never have been possible without the support of my family, friends, coaches, fellow players and most importantly the fans,” stated Farooq, in his Instagram post.
Farooq made a name for himself at Real Kashmir and helped them qualify for the Hero I-League. His performances then eventually earned him a big move to Bengaluru FC.
Apart from Farooq, a number of other Indian players like VP Suhair, Roshan Singh, Aniket Jadhav and Anwar Ali were given their maiden senior cap by Igor Stimac.
Farooq became the first player from Jammu and Kashmir to play for the Indian national football team after 10 years. Mehrajuddin Wadoo was the last footballer from the region back in the year 2011.
