Starting in the red, Piazza Affari managed to close the session just above par thanks to the increases recorded among the securities of the banking sector. Waiting for news from Washington, where the Federal Reserve is expected to announce a 25 basis point increase in the Fed Funds rate tomorrow, traders are optimistic about the negotiations between Moscow and Kiev.
The recovery of the Ftse Mib, which after a minimum of 22,928.77 points closed at 23,499.86 points (+ 0.31%), was led by the securities of the banking sector: Bper Banca closed the trading with a +2, 03%, Intesa Sanpaolo recorded + 0.9% and UniCredit closed with + 0.81%. The CEO of the latter, Andrea Orcel, has announced that he is also evaluating the possibility of leaving Russia.
The protagonists of the day with an increase of 1.5% were the Assicurazioni Generali shares: the Lion of Trieste closed 2021 with a record operating result of 5.9 billion (+ 12.4%) and a net profit in increase of 63% to 2.85 billion. The Board of Directors will propose the distribution of a dividend of 1.07 euros.
Among the best performances we also find that of Leonardo (+ 1.6%) who announced that the five-year growth plan will focus on defense electronics with 200 million annual investments for Italy and another 100 for the division Uk.
The new selloff on oil, after yesterday’s -4.9%, the Brent futures share in the red by 4.66% at 98.5 dollars a barrel, caused Tenaris to lose 3.33% and 0.42% % to Eni.
The combination of sanctions against Russia and the new anti-covid restrictions in China penalized the made in Italy sector (-3.15% for Moncler and -3.78% for Salvatore Ferragamo).
