Buell 1190 Super Touring and 1190 Baja DR: presented at Daytona – News – Moto.it

ANDexactly one year ago the CEO Buell, Bill Melvinhad announced the revitalization plan of the motorcycle company which would be divided into ten models available at least in the US market by 2024.

We come to the most interesting news, given the success of the trend on a global level. It is precisely the 1190 Super Touring, a twin-cylinder adventure (more crossover to be honest) designed around the chassis and engine of the sports car. Buell 1125 CR remained in production until 2011.
That is the one with the diagonal frame in aluminum alloy that fulfills also from tank fuel and with the front brake a perimeter disk on the 17-inch wheel.

The mechanics are based on the well-known engine V2 of 75 ° Helicon but dropped from 1125 to 1190 cc and profoundly updated. So much so that the maximum power has risen from 146 to well 185 horseswhile the maximum torque has passed from 11 to 13.8 kgm.

Land dimensions appear rather compact compared to the current adventures, so much so that Buell itself defines it as a pure road with a sporty setting and tourist attitudes, as confirmed by the cycling shares and the choice of 17-inch wheels despite an adventure line complete with aluminum bags to remember the “rival” Harley-Davidson Pan America.

Sales of the 1190 Super Touring are expected to start in 2023 and the base price has been set at $ 21,995about 19,700 euros.
Reservations are already open on the Buell site and a symbolic amount of 25 dollars is enough to get on the list.

The intention, in Melvin’s words, is to offer a high-performance adventure touring with great handling and a strongly American design.

THEThe second model unveiled is the Baja DR, aka Dune Racer. This is a motorcycle from off road with the trellis frame of steel tubes derived from 1190HCR with which Buell participated in the AMA Pro National Hill Climb championship in 2020.
In this case, however, the swingarm has been shortened to make the “normal” ride suitable (it remains adjustable in length) with a wheelbase ranging from 1,670 to 1,770 mm.

The 1190cc V-Twin engine has been “weakened” a 175 horses and also provides 12.7 kg of maximum torque.

It was presented as the fastest off-road vehicle in the world. “Only 1% of the roads in the world – Melvin said recently – it is paved: the Baja DR is designed to dominate the other 99% and will give riders the freedom to go anywhere in the world ”.

C.with the price established in $ 19,995 (17,900 euros), the Baja DR will also go into production in 2023 and is already bookable.

As we already wrote a few days ago, Erik Buell no longer has anything to do with the company that bears his name, while the former Harley-Davidson engineer and then founder of Buell taken over by the Milwaukee company now deals with vehicles electrical with his company Fuell.
