The Public Prosecution Service (OM) wants a 41-year-old man from Enschede to go to jail for almost two and a half years – of which eight months are conditional – for possessing child pornography pictures and videos. The case got rolling when his neighbor bought his cellphone and found the pictures. The fire only really caught on when it turned out that the head of the neighbor’s sister had been photoshopped in some photos.
The photos were found when the boy next door turned on the man’s phone. The device made contact with the 41-year-old’s Google account, which loaded the man’s images onto the phone. To the boy’s horror, he found child pornography pictures and videos. In some photos his sister’s head was mounted.
Neighborhood is angry
When local residents hear of the find, they decide to gather in front of the man’s home. After all, the neighborhood is known for organizing its own affairs. The neighbors are talking about setting the man on fire or quartering. When the Enschedeer hears this, he chooses to take the harepath.
While the man is safely at the police station, his home is vandalized by his neighbors. Since he does not want to file a report, the account for the damage to the house is for the 41-year-old himself.

The man says he got into trouble when his wife left him with his children overnight. As a result, he ended up in a deep hole and turned to drugs, the highly addictive crack. According to the man, that is also the reason that he had pasted the heads of his neighbor and another girl on the pictures. He would also have secretly filmed a girl on his toilet under the influence of drugs.
Possession of child pornography in the Netherlands is punished severely, a court cannot impose a fine or community service on someone who possesses it. The public prosecutor therefore wants the man to go to prison for 28 months, of which eight months are conditional. The court will rule in two weeks.
