Race car driver Nyck de Vries has had an excellent start to the new season in Formula E. The reigning world champion in the electric racing class won the first race in his Mercedes in Diriyah in Saudi Arabia ahead of teammate Stoffel Vandoorne from Belgium and Jake Dennis from Great Britain.
De Vries started from third place and immediately took over second place from Dennis. Halfway through the race, De Vries also passed his Belgian teammate and took a small lead. He did not relinquish the lead after that. Robin Frijns finished sixteenth.
The 26-year-old racing driver from Friesland was the first Dutchman to conquer the world title in Formula E last season. Then he also won the opening race in Saudi Arabia.
