FC Bayern Munich would like to extend Manuel Neuer, whose current working paper is only valid until 2023. Alexander Nübel, who is currently on loan for AS Monaco, will make his future at Bayern dependent on how long Neuer remains in the record champions’ box.
Already reported on Wednesday Skythat Manuel Neuer should extend his contract with FC Bayern. As things stand, the 35-year-old is only tied to FCB until June 2023.
Contract talks are said to have already taken place between the club and the player. Neuer is said to have revealed to the sporting leadership months ago that he would like to end his career in Munich.
Last weekend, Bayern President Herbert Hainer spoke to him Sky Sport News said: “With Manuel Neuer, I am firmly convinced that he will end his career at Bayern Munich. Manuel Neuer can certainly play for a few more years at the level he is playing at.”
For Hainer, Neuer is still the world’s best goalkeeper and he would be happy “if we can announce it at some point,” said the 67-year-old, referring to the long-term goalkeeper’s contract extension.
But should Neuer negotiate a new contract with the club bosses of FC Bayern, the question arises as to what will happen to Alexander Nübel.
The 25-year-old goalkeeper has been on loan for AS Monaco since July 2021. At some point, the ex-Schalke would like to have at least a realistic chance of competing for the regular place at Bayern.
Nübel’s loan from Monegasque runs until 2023. However, there is a clause that Bayern could use to bring Nübel back early in the summer of 2022. According to kicker Bayern are even flirting with activating this clause. However, it is highly unlikely that this scenario will materialize.
If Neuer were to play for Bayern for several more years (at a high level), Nübel would probably still be on hold.
Florian Plettenberg, Reporter bei Sky Sport, reported early Thursday afternoon that Nübel first wants to wait and see how many years Neuer will sign for.
Nübel could imagine extending the loan in Monaco by another year until 2024. Should Neuer receive a contract until 2025, Nübel wants to finally turn his back on Bayern.
Nübel’s advisor is said to have been informed for the first time this week that the club wants to extend the contract with Neuer. Sports director Salihamidzic also plans to keep Nübel. A common future for Neuer and Nübel at FC Bayern should not be an option for any party.
Monaco’s sports director Paul Mitchell recently praised the German goalkeeper in an interview Sky Sport News: “Recently we saw Alexander Nübel in top form. Just as we know him from Schalke 04. He has shown outstanding performances recently. He is a very dominant goalkeeper.”
How the goalkeeping question at Bayern continues is therefore open. Neuer’s current substitute, Sven Ulreich, would also like to have planning security in the near future.
The 33-year-old’s contract expires at the end of the season. Contract talks have not yet taken place.
This week, Bayern have extended the contract with 20-year-old goalkeeper Lukas Schneller until 2024.
So far, Schneller has been in the squad for two Champions League games and two Club World Cup games in the 2020/2021 season, but he has not yet had playing time with the first men.
