The Ukrainian crisis and the possible Russian winds of war continue to keep the international community in suspense: throughout the day the news has been crammed with alarms and denials. The US embassy in Kiev has invited US citizens in Ukraine to «try to leave immediately. The security situation in Ukraine continues to be unpredictable due to the increased threat of Russian military action and can deteriorate without warning. ” Already on Sunday, Washington announced that it had recalled some of the diplomats and their families, a decision considered premature and excessive by the Ukrainian authorities.
Meanwhile, diplomacy continues its work. The United States announced that it had “shared” with Russia its written responses to the security guarantees required by Moscow to ease the tension. And even NATO, through the mouth of the secretary Stoltemberg, is preparing to do the same.
Europe is also on the move: MEPs from the European Parliament’s Foreign Affairs Committee and the European Parliament’s Subcommittee on Security and Defense will travel to Ukraine from 30 January to 2 February to gather information on the current crisis. The high-level delegation, made up of eight MEPs, will be led by the Foreign Affairs Committee and the chairs of the Subcommittee on Security and Defense David McAllister (EPP) and Nathalie Loiseau (Renew).
In such a delicate situation today the virtual meeting was staged, organized by the Italian-Russian chamber of commerce, between some large Italian companies and Vladimir Putin. A summit defined as “inappropriate” by various sources of the European Union.
