ROME, 26 JAN – It’s called Spark and creates the effect of fireworks but they are not polluting like traditional pyrotechnic games. There are thousands of organic sparks of light, designed to celebrate in a sustainable way. The project is by the Dutch studio Roosegaarde (already winner of numerous international design awards) and the creator Daan Roosegaarde was inspired by “the magical light of fireflies floating in the air, flocks of birds and the galaxy of stars”. The Wellbeing Summit for Social Change in Bilbao, Spain, from 1 to 3 June 2022, will be the first in the world to show this solution for sustainable collective celebrations, explains a note adding that “Spark Bilbao wants to be an alternative to traditional celebrations and pollutants such as fireworks, balloons, drones and confetti “. Combining design and biology, explains the note, “thousands of sparks of light composed of biodegradable materials are silently moved by the ever-changing wind, the result of research already begun in 2019. In the central park of Bilbao this large cloud of 50x30x50 meters will induce visitors to marvel and reflect on the connection with oneself and with nature. “For many people the current situation seems restrictive and traditional fireworks are increasingly banned. Spark Bilbao is a place of wonder and a new sustainable alternative to celebrate together ”says Daan Roosegaarde. “Celebrations are an important time for communities to come together and nurture their traditions. Spark Bilbao evokes a childhood wonder that connects communities ”explains Corinna Otto, director of the Draiflessen Collection museum and curator of The Wellbeing Summit. (HANDLE).
