Reading it is hard to believe, yet it is all true. In fact, if we consider the three professional levels of Italian football, the best defensive bunker belongs to a third series formation.
Other than Inter and Napoli. Nerazzurri and Neapolitans, the two Serie A with the best defensive performance, are not even on the podium. Yes, because the 17 goals collected in 22 days by the Milanese (and 16 by Spalletti’s team) are good numbers, but nothing compared to the top three in the class.
On the lowest step of the podium sit Cesena and Padova, who boast a score of 14 goals in 21 games. In second place is the Reggiana, first in Group B of Serie C: only 12 goals in 21 games for the excellent Emilian rearguard who boasts a good average of 0.57 per game.
