Marvin Pieringer has been loaned to Schalke from Freiburg until the summer. But it is already foreseeable that he will also play for the Knappen for the new season – due to a purchase obligation stipulated in the contract, which will soon become active.
The fact that Marvin Pieringer was chosen for the starting XI on Saturday must have come as a surprise to most fans. After all, there was a lot to indicate that Marius Bülter would return to Schalke’s first eleven. After all, the previously seeded striker had already been on the bench against Kiel last week and was not very happy.
But with Pieringer, Dimitrios Grammozis definitely made the right decision. Nevertheless, he was a rather unusual choice: he had never played together with Simon Terodde from the start. But the combination of the two big attackers turned out to be the right weapon, albeit a little later.
The 22-year-old played a very strong game, which allowed him to surpass his previous good performances. Fun fact on the side: Apart from his yellow card suspension against Kiel, Pieringer was in the starting eleven in each of the last five league games. With all the focus on Terodde and the new chance for Darko Churlinov shortly before the winter break, this development went down a bit.
His performance against Aue was “phenomenal”, according to Grammozis. The coach further (via WAZ): “He played a really good game – not only because of the goals. Marvin works a lot for the team.” He prepared one of the five goals directly and scored another himself. In addition, he initiated numerous other attacks and was thus significantly involved in the offensive game of the S04.
Rouven Schröder confirmed this impression to the WAZ: “Marvin moved cleverly in the gaps and repeatedly shifted the game with his passes and thus opened it up. We are pleased that he was able to reward himself for his performance with his goal.”
Pieringer himself was just as pleased with the goal – despite great effort, it was only his second for the royal blues. This kind of reward was “extremely important” for him, “because as a striker you want to score goals,” he explained. It is understandable that this is an important aspect. After all, the work of an attacker is often overlooked if goals are not scored at the same time.
One thing is clear: despite big, well-known and, above all, experienced competition, the SC Freiburg forward on loan has fully arrived at Schalke. The always set storm duo of Terodde and Bülter is a thing of the past, Pieringer is currently at least on the same level as Bülter.
Good for the Gelsenkirchener: The 1.91 meter tall center forward will most likely stay for the next season and will therefore be permanently committed. The S04 usually very reliable WAZ has therefore learned that there is a purchase obligation under certain conditions in the loan agreement.
Thus, once a certain amount of bets has been reached, the obligation to buy around 500,000 euros is activated. And this number should be reached very soon, so that there is hardly a way around the fixed transfer. Although he probably should have stayed with the royal blue at the end of the season anyway.
“Now it’s up to him to confirm his impression. The competition is fierce, everyone wants playing time,” sports director Schröder spurs him on. Hopefully the Aue appearance will give him a further boost.
