Completing one year of Stellantis, the result of the merger between PSA (which controlled Peugeot and Citröen) and FCA (with brands such as Fiat, Jeep and Ram), Citröen closed 2021 with a growth of 77% and a market share of 1.2%, its best position since 2016.
The C4 Cactus, its only passenger car for sale in Brazil, had 2,721 units sold in December alone, ranking 20th among the best-selling cars in the country. To give you an idea, in the last month of 2020, only 522 copies of Cactus were sold, it was 47th in the ranking at the time.
But, after all, what has changed in the brand’s strategy for sales to take off? Looking deeper into the data from Fenabrave (association of vehicle dealers), it is possible to see that the growth in license plates is part of a direct sales strategy, since 2,500 units, out of 2,721, were sold in this modality.
This means that most of the cars were sold to rental companies, fleet owners and other audiences who have the benefit of buying the car directly with the brand.
Now, in January, the strategy continues. So far, the C4 Cactus is the 13th best-selling vehicle in the country, ahead of models such as the Fiat Argo and Mobi.
And the end consumer?
But, after all, does this change anything for the consumer? In a simplistic analysis, in a few months, the rental companies will have to update the fleet and will dump these cars on the market at a possibly different price. But this does not influence the life of those who already have a Cactus in the garage.
It just means that at the time of resale, there will be more options on the market. But this can even be positive, since, with the car in evidence due to the increase in sales, more consumers may be interested in it.
What does C4 Cactus have?
The C4 Cactus is an honest compact SUV, but it leaves something to be desired in some points. As in the simplicity of the interior finish, in the clean space of the cabin and small trunk: only 320 liters.
Taking advantage of the model being on the rise, Citröen is offering a 13% discount on the list price of two versions of the SUV, the X-Series (which is starting at R$102,990) and the Feel (for R$107,990). In these configurations, it is equipped with a 1.6 16V aspirated engine, which yields 118/115 hp of power (E/G) and 16.1 kgfm of torque, coupled to a six-speed automatic transmission.
Among the X-Series equipment, a multimedia center with a 7″ screen, cruise control, perimeter alarm, speed limiter, stability and traction controls, ramp exit assistant, reversing camera, digital air conditioning and electric mirrors and LED daytime running lights (DRL), among others.Feel adds 17-inch alloy wheels and a tire pressure sensor.
But the best version is Shine, the only one equipped with the 1.6 THP flex engine with 173 hp and 24.5 kgfm of torque. But the price is also “exclusive”: R$ 135,590.
