It is doubtful whether ski jumper Andreas Wellinger can compete in the Beijing Winter Games next month. The two-time Olympic champion from Germany is infected with the corona virus. The 26-year-old athlete won gold at the previous Games in Pyeongchang and four years earlier in Sochi.
“This is extremely bad,” said Wellinger. “I had recovered from an injury to a knee that I had suffered earlier this month. And now suddenly this. It means that I cannot participate in a competition next weekend or train. Waiting to see if I test negative in time . I feel good and want to start again as soon as possible.”
The Winter Games start in China on February 4.
