ROME, 19 JAN – The poignant notes of the piano, the mastery of Ludovico Einaudi who for the first time in the last twenty years is confronted with a solo piano album. In fact, on January 21st, “Underwater” (Decca Records) is released, 12 intimate, instinctive tracks and daughters of what we have experienced in recent months. “When the outside world was still and silent, I immersed myself in a free and boundless space – says the artist, in an online presentation, about the genesis of the album -. I was isolated and enjoyed the peace around me. I perceived the sad silence of the world, which however turned into a sort of oxygen for me. I felt free to experiment, a freedom that I believe is reflected in the work. The music thus becomes a sort of manifesto of the way in which we must reconsider our future life, also in respect of nature which reacted strongly during the lockdown. The beauty of slowness is substantial “. Underwater’s music came to life, naturally. “When everything stopped at the beginning of 2020 I was a bit annoyed: I had concerts in America, in Europe, then I started writing music every day, a sort of diary. Not an artistic obligation, but for the pleasure of doing it – says the composer and pianist -. After a couple of months of this freedom of writing, I started playing it: they didn’t even seem like pieces written by me, I felt something new and I started to appreciate this conversation between me and the piano, which gave me this soft, warm and deep tone. , connected with the touch of your fingers, as if it were the sound of a guitar. I wanted a piano that spoke and sang ”. Underwater comes out after a very significant year for Ludovico Einaudi – the most listened to artist of all time in classic streaming -, who saw the release of the Cinema album with his most famous soundtracks including those of the two most awarded films of the film season, winners of Oscars, Bafta and Golden Globe, Nomadland and The Father, in addition to the podcast series Experience: The Ludovico Einaudi Story.
