The fact that electric cars are too expensive for the proverbial Jan-with-the-pet is something they want to put an end to at Dacia. With the launch of their Spring Electric in March 2021, the Romanians immediately had the cheapest full-fledged EV in Europe among a competition that often costs almost twice as much. The Old Continent is now rewarding that with brilliant sales figures.
80% new customers
According to Dacia, there were more than 46,000 applicants across Europe last year to spend 17,490 euros on the electric mini-SUV. The manufacturer has already delivered 27,876 of these, which gives the Spring a nice third place in Dacia’s ranking of best-selling passenger cars. Moreover, it is not just their regular customers who order the EV: about 80% of the Spring buyers were new to the brand last year. This suggests that the Romanians do succeed in their aim to get a lot of new interested parties to plug in.

The Spring Electric is only surpassed in Dacia’s figures by the two icons of the brand: the Sandero and the Duster. With 226,825 and 186,001 European sales respectively, these are in a different order of magnitude. The Sandero is even the best-selling car in Europe for the fifth year in a row and the Duster crowned itself the most popular SUV among private individuals in 2021. In Belgium, Dacia sold 15,240 cars last year, good for thirteenth place in the list of most popular brands.
