Andries Noppert will be able to walk the streets in Friesland with a broad smile for the foreseeable future. On Tuesday evening, the goalkeeper bowled with Go Ahead Eagles, on his homeland, Heerenveen from the cup tournament (0-1) and he had an important part in that – with a number of cat-like reflexes. Yet the Frisian remains modest.
“It doesn’t feel that way either, because it is a victory for the entire team. We have done well as a collective,” he said afterwards. “And if I can keep a clean sheet and you can be important to the team with a few saves, then that’s great. Only I didn’t do it alone, but all together. It’s just a good performance and the most important thing is that we’re back in the chute.”
Pure cup matches
Warner Hahn, who made a flashy mistake in the Eredivisie last weekend, is still preferred by trainer Kees van Wonderen in the Eredivisie and therefore Noppert has to show it in the cup tournament. “These are matches that you have to show to the trainer, in order to make the choice as difficult as possible for him. You can show it in training sessions, but matches are important. The choice is up to the trainer.”
More playtime
“Of course it’s difficult if you don’t play a lot. Everyone wants to play and that includes me,” he continues. “I want to be important to the team and help the team. I did that today, in my role. That I am not satisfied with that is absolutely not the case. I also want more, only there is one person who decides that. “
hometown
Noppert was born in Heerenveen, so that makes the victory extra sweet for him. “I’ve been here in the youth, so that’s nice. Of course this is a game with a special edge. It’s fun, but the most important thing is that we won and kept zero. And can go back into the competition with confidence again the goalkeeper concludes.
