A Mexican who is seen as a managerial ‘cook’ in various crystal meth labs, including the one in Vroomshoop, narrowly escaped the police two years ago. This is apparent from a police report of which RTV Oost became aware. Shortly before the detectives raided his rented house, he had packed his bags for his home country of Mexico.
It is about the Mexican, nicknamed Gordo (fat). Work was not carried out in various crystal meth labs in the Netherlands without his permission. According to the judiciary, he can be seen as a kind of ‘chef’ who has trained and directed other drug labs. In the eyes of the judiciary, for example, he also led the employees of a hidden lab in a gym in Vroomshoop.
The man is now in custody, but two years ago the police already received a tip from abroad about him and his alleged accomplices. They would have built a lab in Zaandam. The drug lab, where crystal meth and ecstasy were brewed, was indeed there. There were dozens of kilos of finished product ready to be sold. Three men who were present were arrested. The alleged ‘chief chef’ Gordo and two South American co-defendants, however, were not shot.
A heavily armed arrest team then moved to Hippolytushoef, where the three South Americans would rent a house. But no one was found in the house. The police did find a large amount of cash, a gun and kilos of drugs. Gordo’s DNA traces were found on the weapon. The Public Prosecution Service accuses him of having laundered at least 125,000 euros.
His lawyer denies that Gordo was involved in the lab in Zaandam. “At that time, he did cleaning activities in the Netherlands.” According to the landlord of the house in Hippolytushoef, he had let the house to three painters. It is striking that many chats of Gordo and co-defendants have been deciphered, in which people talk about ‘painting’. Thus it was written: the location is ready to paint in‘. But according to the investigative services, this meant that drugs could be ‘cooked’.
After Gordo barely managed to escape the police, he returned to the Netherlands from Mexico. According to the Public Prosecution Service, he then had various meth labs built in several places, together with co-defendants. Drug ‘factories’ have been discovered in Vroomshoop, Baak, Westdorpe in Zeeland and Poppel in Belgium. One or more meth labs are also said to have been developed in Germany. Gordo even had plans to set up some sort of training center for chefs in Spain, chats revealed.
Gordo fled to Spain when the location in Vroomshoop was discovered at the end of 2020. He was still arrested last year.
