The third episode picks up where it left off: Rowan opening the door to meet her husband-to-be – who is immediately impressed by her. Rowan is also happy with what she sees. “I’ve always said my husband has to wear a green suit at my wedding. So you did a great job with this.”
“I am very pleasantly surprised,” Astleigh tells his new wife when they have a moment for themselves after the ceremony. “The experts really did a really good job, they really did.”
But it’s not just these two that appeal to each other. Also the jokes and pranks of wedding official Jeroen Smits, who this season for the first time in Married at First Sight can be seen, stand out in a positive way.
Jeroen is used to being in front of a large audience. In the 90s, BABS broke through to the general public thanks to its participation in joke toppers. When he married a couple of friends for the first time in 2014, he found his new passion. ‘For the first time since my time as a wedding officiant, I was getting married to two people, one of whom could have just said no. Something you never think of or feel in a ‘regular’ marriage!’ he recently wrote in a blog about why he said ‘yes’ to the program. ‘It also gave me an insecure feeling at those moments, but you also eventually make that your own.’
Meanwhile, the anticipation has started for Maurice and Arjan. They are allowed to select the wedding suits and receive a first sign of life from each other. According to the experts, the two are a “perfect match” because they are at the same stage of their lives. “When you see the two of them, you also see that they are physically in the same category.”
Sander and Astrid are a bit further along and have said a resounding ‘yes’ at Slot Zeist. That caused emotions in friends, family and even with the experts. “This is a match that we made by feel”, says behavioral psychologist Patrick van Veen when presenter Carlo Boszhard speaks to him afterwards. “And then you see them coming together. You see Sander with his tears … that makes me emotional too.”
There is definitely a click. At the end of the day, Astrid takes stock: “We’re doing well. I think we click, that it’s cozy and fun.” Sander feels the same for her. “I don’t really feel butterflies yet, but I do have a very nice feeling in my stomach,” he says. “Our looks speak volumes, I think that’s very important too.”
In the third episode of the wedding program, the fourth couple also appears. One half of them is an old friend: 26-year-old Joep from Eindhoven. The groom-to-be also participated in 2020 De Bachelorette, where he tried to win the heart of Gaby Blaaser. Unfortunately without success, because Joep had to leave the program early. Yet he still believes in love. “I have realized that I am looking for someone who also suits me well on the inside and that appearance is not everything, let me put it this way,” he says when Carlo overtakes him.
Joep will soon promise eternal loyalty to the 26-year-old Caroline from Utrecht. She would like to have ‘that togetherness’ with someone again. She doesn’t have a type. The bride-to-be finds it important that her husband opens up and is tough, but with a small heart. Whether Joep is the man of her dreams, we will find out in the coming weeks.
Married at First Sight can be seen every Tuesday at 8.30 pm on RTL 4 or look ahead at Videoland.
